After a lengthy wait the Zelda franchise is making it’s way to Nintendo DS in the form of The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass. Of what we know so far, this game take place straight after the events of Wind Waker. The game borrows the same graphics style as WW but puts it along side the same camera angles as Link to the past. The whole games looks stunning to the eye with strong vibrant colours and that unique Zelda theme. This edition in the series is going to be like no other as it has been announced that you will be controlling the game completely with the stylus and touch screen. It sounds awkward but you know once you get your hands on a copy of the game and play it for yourself, Nintendo will have made it feel like the ‘right’ way to play Zelda. The stylus will be used to move around in the same way as Animal Crossing, dragging the cursor (which appears as a fairy on the screen) towards the edge of the screen to go faster and near the middle to walk slowly. To attack with the sword you must double tap the screen (like the jump function on MPH). Another known function of the stylus is to make notes on the dungeon maps you collect through out the game. Say you find something of interest but you haven’t yet got the right item to deal with it, then you simply jot a little note on your map and come back later. Sailing makes a some may say ‘unwelcome’ return in this Zelda, but Nintendo have changed it to be far less tedious than in WW. Before you depart from which ever island you are on, you will draw out a course for your boat to follow on the map. Having the boat automatically sail leaves you time for shooting enemies along the way with the boats cannon. No release dates have yet been set for the game but there are strong rumours of a March 2007 release.
